How do you choose a logistics school
Some schools have created programs for warehouse workers, in response to the increasing demand for education specifically on logistics. Companies want them to understand the impact their jobs have on customers and how their work within one department can affect activities in other departments as well, says Kathleen Hedland, director of education and research at the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals.
There are a myriad of degrees to choose from, but all include foundation courses covering fundamental concepts like supply chain management and operations, procurement, transportation networks inventory management and warehousing. Some universities also offer specializations like e-commerce and retail logistics, logistics and transportation analysis global logistics management and many more.
Graduates are prepared to serve in roles as logisticians, supply chain managers, purchasing agents, industrial production managers, and distribution managers. They can also pursue certifications such as the Certified Supply Chain Manager or the Certified Public Contract Manager to boost their career prospects.
Check if the school is accredited. This is usually done by a company like the U.S. Department of Education, or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. These organizations have accreditation for 8,200 institutions and 44,000 programs. Find a school that has a good student-to-teacher-ratio, as this will ensure you get a quality education.
Some colleges offer online or hybrid programs that provide classroom instruction in conjunction with online learning opportunities. This kind of format is attractive to employees who work on the flexibility of their schedules and are not able or unwilling to attend traditional classes. Some online-only classes offer associate’s degrees or certificates, while other programs provide master’s and bachelor’s degrees.
